Endeavor: Deep Sea
A gorgeous, brain-friendly Euro that teaches in ten minutes and rewards you for going deeper.
Designed by Carl de Visser and Jarratt Gray · 2024
It's one of the most approachable mid-weight Euros out there, and the Kennerspiel win is earned, but the gentle interaction and easy scoring mean it lands softer than its hype if you want a fight.
Best for: People who want a smart, low-stress Euro they can teach to almost anyone
What it is
Here's the pitch. You're running an ocean research institute, building out a tableau of crew and structures while pushing little markers up four tracks. Construct buildings, recruit divers, drop subs into the deep, and dredge up cards and discoveries. The clever bit is that advancing a track unlocks better actions later, so every turn quietly feeds the next. Carl de Visser and Jarratt Gray took the old Endeavor skeleton and gave it a calmer, prettier body.
The catch
Now the honest part. This is a soft-spoken game. There's no combat, no take-that, barely any blocking beyond the odd card you snipe out from under someone, so four players can feel like four people doing a puzzle near each other. Reviewers agree the first couple of rounds drag while you wait for options to open up, and the track-pushing scores points a little too easily, which makes repeat plays feel samey. People chasing tension will be underwhelmed.
Who it's for
So who's it for? You, if you want a handsome mid-weight Euro you can teach to a nervous newcomer in ten minutes and still chew on yourself. It won Kennerspiel des Jahres 2025 for a reason: smooth, generous, beautiful. Just know what you're buying. This is a relaxing brain-stretch, not a knife fight. Solo and co-op modes are genuinely good, so the box rarely sits idle.
